Fashion designer Maria “Chany” Venturini presented “Affascinante,” her Fall/Winter 2018-19 Collection on March 22, 2018, at 7:15 PM, at 50 E. Pender Street, Vancouver, BC, at her first international show. The Bainbridge Island, WA based designer found inspiration in the Pacific Northwest’s Seattle and Vancouver nighttime cityscapes. Ms. Venturini who pursued fashion design after years of being a stay-home parent, has already received accolades for her work. “I was inspired by the cities of Seattle and Vancouver at night. They seem almost opaque during the days of fall and winter due to the weather, but at night, they light up and sparkle like gems,” said Ms. Venturini. She selected colors that call to mind shiny steel, water slicked cement, gleaming glass panes, and golden street lights; grey, silver, white, black, and gold are featured prominently in this collection. Evocative of the golden age of cinema, this collection celebrates the shape of women, its pieces are sophisticated yet sexy, luxurious yet elegant, urban yet feminine. Ms. Venturini plays with rich fabrics such as velvet, embroidered organza, taffeta, and silk, and with metallic silver and gold fabrics, accents, and sequins for sparkle. Watch for interesting textures like 3D fabrics and lace, as well as hand painted pieces. The collection includes gowns, cocktail dresses, palazzo pants, and separates.

The French Italian Venturini was born and raised in Peru. She earned degrees in Computer Programming, International Business, and Information Systems; her former career focused on international sales and software. When she met and married her husband, they followed his work to the Pacific Northwest. She abandoned her career and raised their two daughters who are now both college graduates. In 2015, she was unexpectedly divorced and needed to find a new career. Upon her mother’s death 7 years ago, she inherited a collection of fabrics meant for the atelier her mother had hoped to own. Those materials reminded her of the great love of fashion and artistic expression given her by her mother and grandmother; fashion was a way to connect with the strong expressive women who shaped her. Ms. Venturini earned an AA in Fashion Design from the Art Institute of Seattle with honors. She won Designer of the Year at the Art Institute Annual Runway Show in March 2017, where she launched her first collection, “Midnight Romance.” In September 2017, her second collection for Fall/Winter 2017-18, “Fantasia,” featured at the Independent Designer Runway Show 2017 of Bellevue Fashion Week; the collection won Fan Favorite. She showed her third collection inspired by traditional Vietnamese fashion at the Vietnamese Bar Association of WA 2017 Annual Gala.
