United Against Hunger! 🥩📦
I got to visit Food Lifeline to learn what leaders in Washington’s Beef Community are doing to help fight hunger!
It all started when they learned just how little high-quality protein, like beef, reaches our food bank system (only about 4% of all food donations), they knew they had to make a change. They turned the experts in fighting hunger at Food Lifeline (foodlifeline.org) and Second Harvest (2-harvest.org) to unite against hunger.
In 2010 when Beef Counts was launched, it gave beef farmers and ranchers a direct way to help feed their neighbors in need. Local farmers and ranchers work within their communities and with grocery stores like Haggen (haggen.com), Rosauers (rosauers.com) and Super 1 Foods (super1foods.net), coming together to raise funds and donate cash and cattle to help fund beef purchases for food banks across the state. The donated beef is processed and shipped from the Washington Beef packing plant in Toppenish, WA and distributed to people in need across Washington through the partnership with Food Lifeline and Second Harvest.
All of the work, donations, and collaboration makes a big impact, one nutritious beef serving at a time. Since 2010, the Beef Counts program has raised over 8,000 and provided over 2.3 million servings of beef to local families across Washington who desperately need the nutrients and protein found in beef. The work continues.
