Gosh, I have been trying to finish this blog post for over a month! Since Christmas is now right around the corner, and my coordinating Amazon cooking gear store isn’t quite ready, you’ll just have to forgo the cooking gifts and run with these (now very last minute) gift ideas instead. Think of it as Oprah’s Favorite Things, pale redhead edition. I promise to have more great holiday posts very soon, and they’ll even have something to do with food…
2012 Covet List (Non-Cooking Category)
TisBest: any amount
We already have too much stuff! But there are a lot of people who don’t. Give a charity gift card instead, and the recipient can choose which organization receives the donation.
Beautiful, hand-made in Seattle glass votive holders in every color you can imagine.
Garden Bon Bons: $16
Super clever and cute seed pods disguised as truffles. A really neat hostess gift for your green-thumb friends.
Leaf Mobiles from Flutter and Twirl Studios: $35
I just saw these at EtsyRain here in Seattle, and they are precious and delicate. I love nature influenced stuff, and these bring a little outside in.
Raquel’s Mosaics Night Lights & Ornaments: $10-26
For some reason I’m obsessed with owls lately, and got THE CUTEST owl ornaments from this artist. She also has adorable glass bird and fish night lights, perfect for the kids’ rooms.
Boston Harbor Scarf: $74
For some reason big, chunky, hand knitted scarves are at the top of my want list this year. I am absolutely obsessed with this one from the etsy shop Behind My Picket Fences. I have another of hers and wear it constantly in the winter.
Lululemon In Stride Jacket: $108
Any girly girl who works out is obsessed with Lulu. This is my favorite jacket – it’s stretchy with a scuba neck and long sleeves with thumb holes. Plus it’s a little longer, so it covers your butt when you have on running tights. It’s high performance enough to work out in, but cute enough to run errands in.
Patagonia Ultralight Down Hoodie: $299
I absolutely covet this jacket. I resisted buying a down puffy coat forever, and boy was I stupid. SUE! wore mine once and had to have her own. Go big or go home on this one, Patagonia gear lasts forever.
Up Band: $129
This wrist band synchs with your iPhone to track your activity and sleep for the day. You can set goals and track your workouts and sleeping patterns, and it even wakes you up at the optimal time. Sure, it’s possibly just another fitness/health gadget, but cool nonetheless!
Fran’s Chocolates: $12+
Another great hostess gift. These caramels are TO. DIE. FOR. I have a list of about 15 people I bring them home for every time I head east. Check in Whole Foods though, I think most carry them.
A Popeye K baby horse: way out of my price range
Ok, ok, this is kind of a joke. Kindof. Anyone who knows me very well knows I still secretly hope to wake up to a real live pony on Christmas morning. I grew up riding, and would love to be one of those lucky ducks who doesn’t have to work and rides a barn full of horses all day long. Santa?
